Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes Clarifies Justin Herbert Comments From Celebrity Golf Event

Los Angeles Charagers quarterback Justin Hebert burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2020, and football fans are excited to see him square off with Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes in year two. At a celebrity golf event this past weekend, one fan told Mahomes to watch for Herbert this season and the Chiefs' signal-caller replied, "I'll see it when I believe it."
The comment immediately went viral as a perceived dig at Hebert. However, Mahomes stated he had no intention of downplaying his division rival.

Mahomes said that he has nothing but respect for Herbert as a player and knows he'll be a pain to play against for years to come. The Chiefs star was simply having a playful back-and-forth with fans of his AFC West rivals rather than talking legit trash.
"Yeah, I think it got taken out of context. I was talking some trash to all those Raiders and Broncos and Chargers fans out there. I have a ton of respect for him as a player."

So the whole situation turned out to be nothing, but it was good for Mahomes to come out and give the proper context that the original clip was lacking.
This mini offseason drama should make the upcoming Chiefs-Chargers games even more intriguing in 2021. Kansas City (-280) and Los Angeles (+500) own the top odds in the AFC West to win the division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
