While the Chiefs will have a mostly healthy roster heading into Super Bowl LV, including starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, they will be taking the field without one key defensive starter, linebacker Willie Gay Jr.
The rookie linebacker reportedly suffered a knee injury in practice which will keep him out of the big game.
Gay would have been the fourth-highest graded rookie playing in the Super Bowl, according to Pro Football Focus. in 16 games this season, starting eight of them, Gay had 39 sacks and 3 tackles for loss.
While losing Gay is something Kansas City would have liked to avoid, the Chiefs will be entering Super Bowl 55 rather healthy, and they are surely thankful for that.
