With teams across the NFL beginning to report to official training camps, excitement is building for the 2022 season. The anticipation has been aided by a recent trend from the league's franchises to unveil alternate helmet and uniform combinations for the upcoming campaign.
The Chicago Bears joined this trend on Sunday when they revealed an alternate orange helmet. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Chicago will wear this new alternate lid with their orange uniform top during a Thursday Night Football contest against the Washington Commanders in Week 6.
Bears Alternate Helmet
In 2013 the NFL implemented a "one helmet" rule — a player safety rule that didn't allow teams to use alternate helmets because of the belief that a worn-in helmet is safer than a brand new one that hasn't shaped to a player's head.
The league opted to scrap that rule for 2022 and teams across the league added alternate and throwback helmets back in their rotation of uniform combinations.
Chicago is in the midst of a rebuild, but the fanbase is surely excited about Justin Fields entering the year as a clear-cut QB1. He threw for just under 2,000 yards a year ago while adding another 420 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
For now, the Bears hold +950 odds to win the NFC North on FanDuel Sportsbook.
