The Boston Celtics will begin a new season on Tuesday, and they'll do so wearing new jerseys.
The Celtics will kick off the 2022-23 NBA season against the Philadelphia 76ers in their new City Connect jerseys, which honor the late NBA legend Bill Russell.
New Celtics Jerseys
The new uniforms are specially designed to commemorate Russell, who passed away on July 31 at 88. The Hall of Fame center spent his entire 13-year career with Boston, winning an NBA-record 11 championships as the anchor of one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports history.
The new jerseys have specific references to Russell's 11 rings along with his uniform number (6), which was retired by every team in the league after his passing. The unique font is also nod to a local restaurant owned by Russell.
Overall, the new uniforms are a thoughtful, well-designed tribute to a Celtics icon and one of the greatest basketball players who ever lived. Boston hopes they bring good luck in the series opener, where the Celtics are favored by 2.5 points at home against the 76ers on FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds.
