Fans and analysts alike were shocked when CeeDee Lamb fell to the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. After all, this is a kid who was coming off a 1,327-yard, 14-touchdown campaign with the Oklahoma Sooners. That's not the type of prospect who usually falls to No. 17 overall.
Playing in one of the NFL's best offenses, Lamb's fantasy football outlook carries a really high ceiling, but unfortunately, a really low floor as well. In fact, we named him one of our top rookies to avoid drafting this season.
CeeDee Lamb Fantasy Football Value 2020
Lamb currently has an average draft position (ADP) of WR43, per FantasyPros. That puts him ahead of some established names like Sterling Shepherd and John Brown.
As talented as he is, Lamb is, at best, the No. 3. option in the Cowboys' passing game. Yes, Randall Cobb saw 83 targets in that role last season, but Lamb is far from a guarantee to soak up the lion's share of those looks.
The Cowboys had top-tier talent surrounding Dak Prescott before even drafting Lamb. Both Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup finished with north of 1,100 yards in 2019. Essentially, Dallas can afford to bring Lamb along slowly if he struggles to adjust, which he probably will.
Due to complications from the pandemic, there will be significantly less practice and training camp time than usual this season. Rookies almost always struggle to adjust to the NFL, but it could be more difficult than ever in 2020.
Even with all that said, Lamb has undeniable upside. He's an elite talent playing what could be a significant role in one of the NFL's best offenses. Lamb will probably have some massive games, it's just going to be really difficult to predict when to use him.
That boom-or-bust potential could make him an excellent target in best ball drafts, though. In best ball leagues, fantasy managers benefit from the great games without suffering through the inevitable down weeks.
We have Lamb ranked at the No. 135 overall player in our 2020 fantasy football rankings.
