Monday night was a special one for Damian Lillard. The walking Portland Trail Blazers legend completed his ascent to the top of the team's all-time leading scorers list, finally surpassing Clyde Drexler for the No. 1 spot.
Former teammate C.J. McCollum had glowing things to say about Lillard after this latest achievement.
McCollum said he's "extremely happy" for Lillard securing his spot at the top of Portland's scoring list. The New Orleans Pelicans guard even recorded a video a couple of weeks ago in order to congratulate his ex-backcourt partner on this accomplishment.
McCollum went on to praise Lillard for the work he put in to get to this point that outsiders don't see. The current Pelican also spoke at length about the relationship he has with Lillard and how that's something that will be lifelong.
These two players have a special bond that was forged throughout their combined time in Portland. McCollum was drafted by the Blazers in 2013, one year after Lillard, and the two went on to be teammates for 8.5 seasons. Their run together included a playoff appearance in each of the full eight campaigns they played with one another, showcasing how prolific this backcourt was.
It now remains to be seen how much Lillard is able to pad his lead atop the Blazers' all-time scoring list. Looking rejuvenated after sitting out most of last season and averaging 28.3 PPG so far, he's showing no signs of slowing down in Portland.
