The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some positive momentum on their side after pulling off an improbable comeback win on Monday Night Football. They're now gearing up for a tough matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14.
Unfortunately, Tampa Bay will be without a key player in this pivotal NFC clash.
Tristan Wirfs Injury Update
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles announced Friday that offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs is officially out for Sunday's contest. Thankfully, it appears the team's three injured members in the secondary at least have a chance of suiting up, though they'll be game-time decisions.
Wirfs' absence isn't a major surprise for the Bucs. The All-Pro talent is currently nursing a serious ankle injury that was feared to be season-ending when it first occurred in Week 12. However, it's since been revealed that Wirfs avoided the worst and could return in 3-4 weeks, setting him up to give his team a boost right before the playoffs.
Tampa will certainly feel Wirfs' absence against an intimidating San Francisco pass rush in Week 14. The Pro Bowler has been one of the league's top offensive linemen once again in 2022, allowing just 1 sack across 771 snaps. His efforts have earned him a stellar 86.8 overall grade from ProFootballFocus, including an elite 90.0 mark in pass blocking.
Josh Wells is now set to start once again for the Buccaneers in place of Wirfs. Tampa Bay is currently tabbed as a 3.5-point road underdog against San Francisco, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
