Buccaneers Potential Opponents for Home Opener Revealed
Anticipation is building for the release of the 2021 NFL season schedule on Wednesday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers already know they'll face an easier set of opponents this year, but the schedule for their Week 1-18 matchups hasn't been set yet.
However, the potential matchups for the Bucs' home opener on Thursday, Sept. 9, have been revealed by Peter King.
Bucs Home Opener 2021
King believes that Tampa will open on Thursday night against either the Buffalo Bills or Dallas Cowboys. The NFL insider says this would give football fans an exciting matchup to look forward to, as the rest of the teams the Bucs will play at home in 2021 aren't as intriguing.
"The NFL wants to get off to a very strong start after a shaky offseason, and they want a game that will generate buzz in the weeks before the season begins and will be must-see TV to start the season. To schedule the Saints or Bears or Giants here (all Bucs home foes this year) doesn’t seem smart because any of them could be a game that’s over by halftime."- Peter King
King's thinking certainly makes sense. With the Bills, it'd pit two high-powered offenses and top QBs against each other in Tom Brady and Josh Allen. With the Cowboys, it'd be a similar story, and putting Dak Prescott's potential return to the field in primetime would only add viewership.
Tampa boasts one of the easiest strength of schedules in 2021, which should help them as they hope to repeat as champions. They currently have the second-best odds on FanDuel Sportsbook to win the Super Bowl this year at +650.
