The Cleveland Browns continue to reiterate that Baker Mayfield is their starting quarterback. If that is the case, going out and grabbing him some help in the offseason would be a smart idea. Browns fans will be glad to hear that Mel Kiper projects Cleveland to do just that in his first 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
Browns Mock Draft
Kiper has the Browns slated as the landing spot for Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson at No. 13 overall. This pick would obviously address a major need for head coach Kevin Stafanski's offense.
There's a reason the Browns posted the sixth-lowest passing play percentage in the NFL this past season (53.98%). Cleveland averaged the sixth-fewest passing yards per game (195.3) and struggled to get anything going in the passing attack when it mattered the most.
The Buckeyes' wideout hauled in 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns during his junior season this past fall. Wilson has the versatility to play on the outside or in the slot. His crisp route-running abilities allow him to get open quickly and his speed gives him the opportunity to rack up yards after the catch.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Wilson earn a starting role in training camp given the only proven WR on the Browns roster is an aging Jarvis Landry. After all, the 21-year-old could be the spark that this team is missing and contribute from day one. The NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday, April 28.
