The Denver Broncos are in the middle of finalizing their offseason plans before free agency and the NFL Draft. Denver unfortunately doesn't own its first-round pick due to the Russell Wilson acquisition in 2022, but the Broncos did get a first-rounder after dealing Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins before the trade deadline.

That pick, which was originally owned by the San Francisco 49ers, is now locked in.

Denver Broncos NFL Draft 2023

Following the 49ers' loss in the NFC Championship Game, their pick is now slated to be the No. 29 overall selection. Miami sent this first-rounder to Denver, which now finally has clarity on when it'll be on the clock.

It remains to be seen how the Broncos ultimately make the most of this expected first. They could target a talented prospect and hope for a future star, or potentially use it in a deal to land former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton.

Denver's head-coaching search simply hasn't gone as planned, leaving the team with fewer options than they had initially. Payton is arguably the highest-profile name left on the board, and his reputation around the league as a former Super Bowl winner is extremely positive. The Saints, however, are looking for a king's ransom to send him to a new home.

Perhaps New Orleans will come down from its lofty asking price and accept the No. 29 selection, if it's offered.
