The Atlanta Braves didn't let a slow start to the 2022 MLB season keep them down. A combination of determination and turnaround performances from key players has led to the club cutting the New York Mets' NL East lead down to just 5.5 games.
If the hottest team in baseball wants to continue its rise, improving the starting rotation is never a bad idea. That's why MLB.com's Mark Feinsand sees Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo as a potential trade fit for the Braves.
Atlanta Braves Trade Rumors
Castillo is one of the top trade pieces on a Reds team poised to be sellers at the trade deadline. Although he's dealt with some injury troubles this season, the 29-year-old veteran has looked solid in his seven starts thus far. Castillo's 3.23 ERA and 1.128 WHIP are extremely solid considering how bad the Reds have been, while the .211 batting average he's given up is his best since 2019.
Aside from Max Fried and Kyle Wright, the Braves' starting rotation hasn't been that great overall. Bringing in Castillo to be the No. 3 pitcher would help turn things around by giving Atlanta a former All-Star that it can rely on.
There are less than two months until the MLB trade deadline and anything can happen by then. While the Braves are playing well and things are going their way right now, inquiring about someone with Castillo's resumé could help them repeat as World Series champions.
Braves World Series Odds
Winning back-to-back championships in any sport isn't easy, but the Braves have a realistic shot at accomplishing it. FanDuel Sportsbook is giving Atlanta +1500 odds (T-No. 6) to win the 2022 World Series this fall.
