Braves Confirm the Worst With Latest Luke Jackson Injury Update

The Atlanta Braves were hoping for the best case scenario when reliever Luke Jackson was diagnosed with a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. Unfortunately, those hopes did not come true as Jackson recently underwent Tommy John surgery and will be out indefinitely.

Jackson had already been placed on the 60-day injured list, but this news closes the books on his 2022 season entirely. Keep in mind the 30-year-old hurler is also on the final year of his current contract. His time with the Braves could be up given he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Atlanta's bullpen depth is now going to be pushed to the limit. Jackson was leaned on heavily last season, allowing 14 earned runs in 63.2 innings pitched (1.98 ERA). He also became a go-to option during the playoffs and gave up just 5 ER while striking out 9 batters across 11 appearances.

Injuries like this is why the Braves made sure to upgrade their bullpen in the past offseason, though. three-time All-Star Kenley Jansen was brought in to be the closer and 11-year pro Collin McHugh has proven to be a reliable setup man. Only time will tell as to whether those additions will be enough.

The Braves currently have odds set at +125 to win the National League East division and odds set at +1200 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
