The St. Louis Blues and the Dallas Stars both pulled off upsets as lower seeds in the opening round of the NHL Playoffs and will now square off in Round 2. The Blues are favored in Game 1 of the series at -160 on the moneyline and hold the fifth-best odds to win the Stanley Cup at +700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
As it's always smart to hear what those in the industry have to say before placing a bet, here are some expert predictions for the series between the Stars and Blues.
Stars vs Blues Round 2 Predictions
Shannon aka The Hockey Guy
The Hockey Guy sees this series going to six or seven games. He thinks it will be a low-scoring, defensive matchup, which favors the Blues. Despite being a Stars fan, Shannon says his brain is saying to take the Blues in the series.
Nikita Nazarov, of Hockey Nation, notes how both of these teams have slow and methodical approaches to the game. Nazarov has St. Louis winning the Stanley Cup, so he is siding with them in this series. He likes the Blues in six games.
Last Word On Hockey
Brady Reid, of LWOS, thinks these teams are pretty evenly matched. Reid likes the veteran experience from Ben Bishop over the young Jordan Binnington, so he's giving the goaltending edge to the Stars. Reid thinks this will go to a Game 7, with Dallas taking the series.
The numbers from the Athletic give the edge to the Blues in the overall series. They give the Stars a 16 percent chance to win it in six games, but if it goes to seven, the Blues have the best shot at winning.
Overall, we have two experts taking the Blues in six games and one going with the Stars in seven. The Athletic's formula spits out a 54.9 percent advantage to the Blues, but all are expecting a low-scoring series out of these two teams.
