The 2020 NFL season certainly hasn't been the campaign Joe Mixon nor the Cincinnati Bengals' fanbase were hoping for from the budding running back talent after it was derailed by a foot injury.

Joe Mixon Status Week 14

Mixon hasn't played since Week 6 and has been on the IR since Nov. 21, and unfortunately, he isn't coming off it or back onto to field this week as the Dallas Cowboys travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals this Sunday either.

Even though Mixon hasn't set foot back on the field since Week 6 and Week 14 won't prove his return either, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor did say there's a "possibility" we can see him back before the end of the regular season.

The Bengals are still reeling from the season-ending loss of star rookie quarterback and former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Joe Burrow, so the grim update on Mixon certainly doesn't come at a great time either.

However, Giovani Bernard has performed admirably as the lead back in Mixon's absence this season. Bernard posted two straight games with a score in Week 7 and 8 in his first two games filling in for Mixon, but his production has steadily dropped since after failing to rush for more than 32 yards and posting 0 TDs in the four games since Week 8.

Yet, that could all change in the face of this struggling Cowboys' defense, which is allowing a league-worst 157.8 rushing yards per game on the season.
