The Cincinnati Bengals are still coming to grips with the fact that they lost their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow to a gruesome knee injury in Week 11, but that isn't going to stop Week 12 from coming. And the Bengals needed to name a starting quarterback for their matchup against the Giants.

While most expected former fourth-round pick Ryan Finley to step up from being the backup into the starting role, the Bengals have made a surprise choice for their Week 12 starter. They are calling up Brandon Allen from the practice squad to give him the starting nod.

It's unclear why Allen was chosen over Finley, but he does have some history with coach Taylor from time that Allen spent on the Los Angeles Rams practice squad.

It's not as if Finley has necessarily done impressive enough work to cement his place as the starter for the rest of the season, so if Taylor has some confidence in Allen, it makes sense why this move was made.

Nothing seems to be set in stone here, so you have to assume Allen's start against the Giants on Sunday is just as much a tryout for the rest of the season as it is anything else.

The Bengals are currently 5.5-point underdogs at home in Week 12.
