Athletics Rumors: Exciting Top Prospect Called Up to Majors

The Oakland Athletics have been one of the best power hitting teams this year and have used their balanced roster to start 25-17 on the season. They sit 0.5 games up in first place in the AL West division and have now called an exciting young prospect up to the active roster.

Outfielder Luis Barrera will join the Major League squad on Tuesday before the start of a three-game series against the Houston Astros. He is the team's No. 7 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline and brings a sense of versatility to the table as he is able to play all three outfield spots.

Barrera has played in 11 games this season for the Athletics' Triple-A team and is slashing .349/.429/.558 with two home runs, a double, triple and seven RBIs on the year. He simply hasn't slowed down since rapid rise through the A’s system starting back in 2019.

During the 2019 season, Barrera took home Texas League All-Star Game MVP honors while playing for the Double-A Midland RockHounds. Overall, he is a menace at the plate using a combination of size and contact ability to get on base. Barrera also has speed on the base paths and can play great defense as well.

The 25-year-old ballplayer is just the latest what has been of a lot of top prospect call ups so far this season. Barrera should have an opportunity to contribute right away and it wouldn't be surprising to see him stick around if he gets off to a hot start.
