The Houston Astros suffered a scary moment on Monday night when starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi was stretchered off the field with an apparent leg injury. Fortunately, Odorizzi's MRI results brought amazing news considering the initial fears around his diagnosis.

MLB insider Chandler Rome reported on Wednesday that Odorizzi avoided a ruptured Achilles tendon. The MRI did reveal strains and sprains of ligaments around his foot and ankle, but this was a "best case scenario."

It was the non-contact nature and immediate reaction of the veteran pitcher that offered the most cause for concern. Odorizzi immediately fell to the ground in an attempt to run off the mound and cover first base.

Rome reported the 11-year MLB veteran is already off his crutches.

For now, there's no timeline set on Odorizzi's return, but it's clear he avoided a season-ending injury.

Houston recalled Seth Martinez from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move and the depth of the starting rotation will be tested for at least the next month.
