Ninth-year NFL veteran Cordarrelle Patterson enjoyed the best campaign of his career in his first season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. The 30-year-old is a free agent this offseason and now the fanbase is wondering if he'll be back on the roster for the 2022 NFL season.
Patterson has made it clear that he wants to return, so the ball is in Falcons management's court. Fortunately, it looks like the feeling is mutual judging by team owner Arthur Blank's latest thoughts.
Cordarrelle Patterson Free Agency
Blank spoke on the Falcons' website on Wednesday, saying that the team "would love" to have Patterson in an Atlanta uniform next season. There's no doubt that fans should be thrilled about that news.
"[Patterson's] a terrific young man. He's great with the fans. He's great in the locker room. He's a real competitor… I hope that he'll be a Falcon this time [next] year."- Arthur Blank
Patterson made the most of his opportunities last season. He recorded a career-high 153 carries for 618 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He was also targeted 69 times, hauling in 52 balls for 548 receiving yards and another five TDs.
Patterson's 1,116 yards from scrimmage led all Falcons players and made his one-year, $3 million contract look like a bargain. Based on that play alone, he'll likely see a significant pay raise from whichever team signs him.
Nevertheless, the future for a Patterson return to Atlanta is looking promising. The fans want him back. The owner wants him back. He wants to come back. Where there's a will, there's a way and it seems like all sides involved are set on finding a way to make things happen.
