Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers made it abundantly clear this week that he has high standards for his wide receivers. His career is closer to the end than the beginning and if a Super Bowl is the goal for the 2022 NFL season, Rodgers only wants the best wideouts by his side.

Pro Football Focus' Doug Kyed has now shed some light on who Rodgers' preferred starting WRs are. According to the reporter's latest mailbag, the four-time NFL MVP is hoping for Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb to be his top options.

Packers Roster Rumors

The most notable thing about Rodgers' preferred starters is that they're all veterans. It's clear that the gunslinger doesn't trust his rookie group after their practice woes and would rather deal with proven commodities, even if they're nowhere close to being on Davante Adams' level.

Kyed adds that while 2022 second-round pick Christian Watson "could catch on quickly," Rodgers "wants Lazard to be the top option." Though the 26-year-old set career-highs in receptions (40), yards (513) and touchdowns (8) last season, Lazard has a lot to prove before he's considered No. 1 WR material.

Although the other two options in Rodgers' preferred group — Watkins and Cobb — have NFL experience, their upside isn't that high. Cobb's best days are behind him, finishing with 450 or fewer yards in three of the last four seasons while Watkins has failed to meet the mark in each of his last two campaigns.

Rookie WRs Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure have impressed in times at camp, so it remains to be seen if they can crack the starting lineup. Packers fans should have a better idea of how Rodgers' crew is shaping up after their team plays the New Orleans Saints on Friday night.
