Jerry Tillery Stats

Jerry Tillery had a quality 2018 season, netting 10.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks and forcing three fumbles through 13 games for the Irish. However, there have been some questions surrounding Tillery's motor, as his production hasn't always matched his physical skill set on certain plays. That is not to say that Tillery hasn't had his moments of pure domination though. Tillery earned Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording four sacks, a forced a fumble and two QB hurries in a win over No. 7 Stanford in Week 5.

Much of Tillery's success last season has been attributed to improved conditioning and mobility, which means he could be trending upward come late April. Tillery did have one of the best first steps in the country, and he was often the first defender off the line after the snap, making him hard to stop on interior rushes when he lands the first blow. However, there is also some concern over his poor footwork. Some NFL scouts have cited his inability to slide effectively after contact and change direction in the open field as factors that could limit his success at the NFL level.

Jerry Tillery Draft Projection

Late First Round

Jerry Tillery Draft Predictions

Los Angeles Chargers (No. 28), Kansas City Chiefs (No. 29)

The Chargers have the No. 28 overall pick in this year's draft and could be looking for a larger interior presence on the defensive line to take some pressure off defensive end Joey Bosa. Current Chargers nose tackle Brandon Mebane is turning 35 years old next January, and his ability to clog the lane and rush the passer is clearly deteriorating. The Chiefs are another team sitting with a pick in the late first round that could use some defensive help. If the Chargers pass on Tillery, look for Kansas City to make a move on him before he slips into the second round.
