When it comes to betting NFL games, there's nothing like getting points and having a little home-field advantage to boot.

A team at home usually has the upper hand, even if Vegas considers them an underdog. Or at least, that's was the trend through the first six weeks of NFL games.

Then in Week 7, it all changed. All five home underdogs -- the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, San Fransisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins -- lost straight up, and failed to covr as well.

To be fair, that group includes some of the worst teams in the NFL. The 49ers and Cardinals have just one win each, the Jets can lose to any team on any given Sunday, and the Dolphins had Brock Osweiler at the helm. Plus, the Bears were playing the Patriots.

Going against Tom Brady and company is hard enough. But giving up two special teams touchdowns in the process? No amount of Hail Marys can save you from that.

It's still fair to say that betting a home underdog is a good gamble. While it may not pan out every week, neither do home favorites. A gamble is a gamble, but taking a home dog is a tried and true formula that has been paying dividends so far this season.
