The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most interesting teams to watch this offseason. This team is simply way too talented to be picking as high as it is in the 2021 NFL Draft (No. 12). The 49ers are also working with about $16 million in cap space, per Spotrac. That gives them a lot of ammo to make moves.

If GM John Lynch wants to avoid picking in the top 12 again next season, he'll have to use that cap space to make some key improvements in the next few months. But to maximize that space, he may have to make some tough calls.

Here are three 49ers veterans that could be cap casualties this offseason.

49ers Cuts

3. Travis Benjamin, WR

Travis Benjamin is a journeyman wide receiver who carries a cap hit of a little over $1 million in 2021. He signed with the team last offseason, but he never played after opting out of the 2020 season. If the organization needs to clear a little space, Lynch can shed Benjamin's contract with no dead money. Benjamin is a downfield burner, but adding someone like John Ross to fill that role instead would give this offense a lot more juice.

2. Mark Nzeocha, OLB

Mark Nzeocha has been with the 49ers since 2017, but he might've played his last snap with the team. Dealing with injuries in 2020, he only played three defensive snaps and his his role on special teams fell from a 76% snap share to 21%. San Francisco can save $1.6 million by moving on from the 31-year-old this offseason.

1. Dee Ford, DE

When he's right, Dee Ford can still be an effective pass-rusher. But he hasn't been "right" for a while now. Ford only appeared in one game last season and missed five games in 2019. Cutting or trading him would save the team a little under $6 million this offseason, though he'd carry a dead cap hit of $14 million. That's a hefty price to pay. But if this team needs to open up money for a big addition, Ford is a logical cut candidate.
