The Detroit Tigers are in the midst of another losing season, and it may be high time to trade some of their veteran players for prospects.
One name that immediately comes to mind is outfielder and soon-to-be free agent Nicholas Castellanos, who has been in trade rumors for what feels like three years now. Castellanos is having a down season, following back-to-back campaigns of 20+ home runs, which also included a career-high .298 batting average in 2018.
If teams are willing to look past his slow start and buy him on the cheap (Castellanos should not command any major prospects), there are some potentially good fits in need of a corner outfielder. Here are three potential trade partners.
1. Cleveland Indians
Are the Tigers willing to move Castellanos inside the division? If yes, the Indians make sense as a landing spot due to their dearth of offense this season, particularly in the outfield. While Cleveland can easily be sellers at the trade deadline, their current .500 record suggests they can go either way, and grabbing a hitter familiar with AL Central pitching is not the worst idea in the world.
2. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks are in similar boat as the Indians, in that they are still in the hunt and have to decide which direction to move once the midseason point hits. They have scuffled lately after a surprisingly solid start, and now have a real need at outfielder if David Peralta's injury is worse than first expected. There have been some whispers about a potential deal, which started even before Peralta hit the shelf.
3. New York Yankees
The Yankees continue to defy a multitude of injuries, as they jockey with the Rays for first place in the AL East. With Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton still on the DL, they have relied on the likes of Clint Frazier, Cameron Maybin and others to fill the void. If the Yanks wanted to add more depth, Castellanos and his right-handed power could play nicely at Yankee Stadium.
