Jay Ajayi is arguably the top player left in free agency. He visited the Indianapolis Colts back in March, but left without a contract, and remains an option for all 32 NFL teams.

Since Indy passed on Ajayi, we won't include them in this list of potential destinations for the free-agent running back.

With Melvin Gordon holding out and no sign of when he might return, the Chargers could consider signing Ajayi. Even though Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson were serviceable while filling in for Gordon, a veteran like Ajayi has proven to be capable of carrying a heavy load, something that neither backup has done in their young careers.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When your primary ball carriers are Peyton Barber and 2018 second-round pick Ronald Jones, considering a veteran like Ajayi seems to be a viable option. The English-born back would arguably be the best RB on the Bucs roster if they were to sign him, and he could also help QB Jameis Winston as a pass-catcher.

1. Houston Texans

The Texans' backfield looks extremely thin after cutting D'Onta Foreman earlier today. Adding Ajayi could be a nice insurance policy for Houston, especially because his skillset complements starter Lamar Miller's well. Ajayi and Miller would be a solid one-two punch on a team that is seemingly searching for a No. 2 back.
