Week 1 of the NFL season usually has a handful of notable performances that seemingly come out of nowhere. This year is no exception. Here are three players whose Week 1 performances could point to a breakout season.

1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson shocked the NFL world because he put on a show with his arm, and not his legs. He finished the game 17-for-20, throwing for 324 yards and five touchdowns. Jackson and the Ravens were so impressive that he got to rest and watch the entire fourth quarter from the sidelines. Sure, it was against the Miami Dolphins, but this passing performance is impressive considering it was supposed to be Jackson's major weakness.

2. Sammy Watkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

What a day to set a new career high in receiving yards. Sammy Watkins put on a show in Jacksonville, catching nine passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns. The offensive focus of the Chiefs was shifted to Watkins after the injury to Tyreek Hill, but he was clearly able to handle the spotlight. This could be the season that Watkins finally lives up to the hype.

3. DeSean Jackson, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

DeSean Jackson is back in Philly! After trailing by 13 at the half in Week 1, Carson Wentz and the Eagles relied heavily on the speedy veteran to make plays. He did just that. Jackson turned back the clock and finished the day with eight catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Not only does Wentz trust him to go get the football, but the two showed an obvious chemistry that should lead to some repeat performances for the veteran throughout the season.
