3 Carolina Panthers Bold Predictions for Week 2
By Zach Brunner
In Week 2, the Carolina Panthers head south to take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina is opening as the clear road underdog in this matchup.
After both teams lost in Week 1, it wouldn't be terribly shocking to see the game go either way, but we still may see some surprises. With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the Panthers against the Buccaneers.
3. Christian McCaffrey Scores Multiple Touchdowns
While this is a new offense for the Panthers, the one thing that stayed the same was that Christian McCaffrey is the featured player. He totaled 26 touches in their Week 1 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. McCaffrey is also the team's most trusted player, shown by him getting the touches in the red zone, resulting in two touchdowns from inside the 10-yard line.
2. Christian McCaffrey Totals Less Than 100 Yards
As was just noted, McCaffrey is the featured player, totaling 26 touches for 134 yards in Week 1. While he is one of the best players in the league, Tampa Bay has his number. During his historic 2019 season, McCaffrey totaled just 110 yards between his two matchups against Tampa. They also did a good job on Alvin Kamara last week, allowing just 67 yards to him.
1. Panthers Force a Turnover
The Carolina defense is one of the worst in the league. If you need any hint as to how in need of talent they are, you can look to the 2020 NFL Draft, when they used every single pick on the defensive side of the ball. In Week 1, they were passive observers against the Raiders, giving up 34 points while offering very little resistance. However, this Tampa Bay offense is lacking chemistry. This Panthers defense does not need to be good to force a turnover here. They just need to be opportunistic, and these young players should do just that, hoping to grab the ball on a miscommunication at some point.
