Zac Taylor Explains Why Brandon Allen Re-Signing Means so Much to the Bengals

After an unexpected and Cinderella-like run to Super Bowl 56, the Cincinnati Bengals revamped their offensive line during free agency in order to take quarterback Joe Burrow to even greater heights. The roster is deep, full of playmakers and touts one impressive leader under center.
However, the Bengals may have made the most underrated free agent signing of the offseason by bringing back the other quarterback on roster, Brandon Allen.
Head coach Zac Taylor explained why Allen means so much to the Bengals. And, no, it really has nothing to do with Joe Burrow's injury history.

“I think that’s been good for Joe, to have that veteran kind of give him the lay of the land in the room.”

Taylor sung Allen's praises during the league's owners meeting on Monday,
“I think that’s been good for Joe [Burrow], to have that veteran kind of give him the lay of the land in the room. It’s always good to have that dynamic in the quarterback room. Brandon’s got a great personality that meshes well with Joe.”

Allen has actually started six games and thrown for over 1,000 yards in Cincinnati, in part thanks to Joe Burrow's freak ACL injury back in his rookie campaign. But, his sheer presence and leadership is what Taylor and the Bengals find so important.
“I hate to speak for Joe, but I think he’s happy as well. They’ve got a great relationship, so we’re very fortunate to continue that with the quarterback room as it is right now," said Taylor.
Allen signed a one-year deal to continue working as Burrow's backup in 2022. Based on last year's performance, whatever this quarterback room is doing is working. Burrow just finished an impressive campaign with 4,611 passing yard and 34 touchdowns, completing a league-best 70.4% of his passes.
