The New York Yankees have already had a busy and expensive offseason, headlined by the re-signing of Aaron Judge as well as the signing of free-agent pitcher Carlos Rodon.

However, a successful franchise is built off more than just star free-agent signings. The moves done with little fanfare to help build up the depth and minor-league system can also have a huge impact.

Yankees Sign Wilmer Difo

New York made a move like that on Friday by signing free-agent infielder Wilmer Difo. His contract will pay him two separate amounts based on whether or not he makes the MLB roster.

Difo is a versatile player who can man multiple infield positions and even has some experience in the outfield. Wilmer only played in three games in 2022 for the Arizona Diamondbacks but has topped 100 games three times, most recently in 2021 when he slashed .269/.329/.384 for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

For a Yankees team that has dealt with loads of injuries over the past few years, Difo is a solid insurance policy.
