Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal has officially undergone successful surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left knee on Wednesday. The two-time MLB All-Star suffered the injury in a freak accident on Monday as he was checking his swing in a 6-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins. He was subsequently placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Hearing that Grandal's surgery was successful should fill White Sox fans with optimism. After all, it's the first step to getting him back into the lineup.

The good news is that Grandal isn't expected to be out of the lineup for that long, relatively speaking. His current timetable is 4-to-6 weeks, which would put him on track to return to the White Sox lineup before the end of August — just in time for a playoff push.

The switch-hitting catcher has recorded 14 home runs and 38 RBI in 181 at-bats so far this season while slashing .188/.388/.436. Considering how other Opening Day players could be sliding back into the lineup over the coming weeks, you can bet that the White Sox are counting down the days until they finally have a fully healthy lineup.

With a 50-35 record, Chicago has been one of the best American League teams this season. The club currently has the best odds (-1100) to win the AL Central, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the White Sox's World Series odds rank third at +800.
