The Chicago White Sox have already been at the center of a few notable offseason moves before the league's annual Winter Meetings. Veteran first baseman Jose Abreu signed with the Houston Astros but the team brought in starting pitcher Mike Clevinger.
Chicago is far from done making moves, though. A recent report suggests one All-Star pitcher on the roster is drawing serious trade interest from other teams around baseball.
That name is veteran reliever Liam Hendriks. White Sox insider James Fegan explains the team isn't necessarily shopping Hendriks, but his "name has come up in trade talks" and "asked about by other teams."
Trading Hendriks wouldn't be an easy choice for the White Sox front office. He's been one of the best relievers in baseball since 2019, recording a 2.26 ERA and insane 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings during that span. However, Fegan points out the White Sox may be "reluctant" but "he’s set to earn the club’s fourth-highest salary in 2023."
Only time will tell if Chicago is convinced to make a deal, but White Sox fans should not be shocked if Hendriks is dealt this offseason.
