Vikings Linked to Intriguing Free-Agent Wide Receiver
The Minnesota Vikings had one of the more balanced offensive attacks in the league in 2020. They were in the top half of the league in passing yards and points per game while boasting the fifth-best run game.
Minnesota features a deadly one-two punch in wide receivers Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, but the Vikings don't have much established talent behind that duo. To solve that, it sounds like Minnesota could be interested in adding Dede Westbrook, a talented WR with a lot of upside.
Dede Westbrook Vikings
The Vikings have reportedly had early conversations with Westbrook as he receives interest in this later stage of free agency. Westbrook's 2020 campaign was limited to two games and tore his ACL in Week 7, but that injury happening early on has allowed him to rehab and prepare for the start of this upcoming season.
The former fourth-round pick could add a promising WR3 to the Vikings' top-heavy receiving corps. No Vikings player outside of Jefferson (1,400 yards) and Thielen (925 yards) managed even 400 yards during the 2020 season.
Westbrook, meanwhile, went for 717 yards and 5 TDs in 2018, followed up by 660 yards and 3 TDs in 2019. He also recorded 66 receptions in both years, so he's fully capable of slotting in as a third option for Minnesota.
Teams and free agents can talk without a deal coming to fruition. But the Vikings should seriously consider nabbing Westbrook on an affordable deal and seeing if he can regain his form with two top targets surrounding him.
