VIDEO: Remembering Joe Flacco's 43-Yard Reception in His Rookie Season

Whether you want to classify him as "elite" or not, it's hard not to appreciate what Joe Flacco did with the Baltimore Ravens. The greatest quarterback in franchise history (for now), Flacco kept the Ravens competitive for most of a decade, and even earned Super Bowl MVP honors along the way.
He was never exactly known for his athleticism, but he did show some flashes of it on this play from his rookie season.
That's former Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith taking the handoff from Flacco, and then Flacco runs an effective (if slow) wheel route to get a step on the Oakland Raiders defense before hauling in the dime from Smith.
Flacco's 2008 rookie season was the peak for his non-passing stats, as his 180 rushing yards remained a career high. While he gained 43 yards on this reception, he actually finished his career with only 35 receiving yards — the only other pass he ever caught went for -8 yards in 2011.
The Ravens head into the 2020 season with a quarterback who might be a bit more athletic than Flacco in Lamar Jackson, and they look poised to be in Super Bowl contention yet again.
