One of the most common areas to add in a little fun into the game of football is in naming plays, especially audibles at the line of scrimmage. And Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and starting quarterback Derek Carr are certainly not strangers to this theme.
While audibles can often sound like a lot of gibberish between numbers and colors before the snap, Carr and the Raiders have taken their naming system to a new level.
Carr's wacky lineup of audible calls pay homage from celebrity singers like Bruce Springsteen and Rihanna to superstar MLB pitchers Nolan Ryan and Clayton Kershaw. But that's not all, some of the audibles even include a tribute to Gruden's wife, Cindy Gruden.
Some golfers even made the cut here too, between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, along with zoo animals like a Lion and pop singer J-Lo. While the importance of these audibles are, of course, in their effectiveness, perhaps one part of the strategy is to sneak a giggle out of the defensive lineup before snapping the ball.
