Vegas Expects Trevor Lawrence to Start His NFL Career With a Win

A new era of Jacksonville Jaguars football will begin this fall as 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence is set to lead the way.

Vegas seems to be on board the hype train as well and expects the young quarterback's career to start off with a win. Jacksonville opens as a 3-point favorite over a division rival in the Houston Texans, according to Week 1 NFL Odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook.

There may not have been a better opponent for Lawrence to face in his first NFL start. The Texans are surrounded by question marks this season and may not even have DeShaun Watson taking snaps. Plus, Houston allowed 256.5 passing yards per game last season, which ranked No. 23 in the NFL.

The Jaguars are certainly not used to being a favorite. In fact, this will be the first time Jacksonville is favored in a game since Week 3 of the 2020 season against the Miami Dolphins. However, the Jaguars got crushed in that contest and ended the season with a 7-9 record against the spread.

Lawrence continues to show off his arm strength during training camp and seems to already know the playbook pretty well. The 21-year-old could transform his success from college to the NFL. He finished a three-year career at Clemson with over 10,000 passing yards and 90 touchdowns.

The Jaguars will look to start the season off 1-0 as they take on the Texans at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday, September 12.
