The Minnesota Twins have exceeded expectations this season and currently sit 2.0 games up in first place of the AL Central division (43-35). Adding some more talent to the roster through the MLB trade market would be smart, but that could mean parting ways with a top prospect in the process.

Minnesota Twins Trade Rumors

Insider Aaron Gleeman predicts the team to dangle outfielder/shortstop Austin Martin in a deal that would bring back a reliable starting pitcher. The Twins need arms as soon as possible, so Gleeman didn't rule out other notable names like Jose Miranda and Spencer Steer from being traded, too.

Martin was the headline prospect acquired by Minnesota when the team dealt Jose Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021. The Twins' No. 2 prospect has never appeared above the Double-A level, but that is to be expected of a 23-year-old that was still playing collegiate baseball as recent as 2020.

It didn't take long for Martin to adjust to facing minor league pitching considering he slashed .270/.414/.382 during the 2021 season (93 games). His speed has been on full display during the 2022 season, racking up 22 stolen bases across 61 games played.

Minnesota fans may not like the idea of parting ways with a player that could be a star down the road. However, it's important to remember that the Twins have seen 10 different pitchers log at least two starts this season. Relying on guys like Dylan Bundy (4.71 ERA) down the stretch is a risky move.

The Twins have odds set at +4000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
