With that in mind, here are the top-10 fantasy baseball catchers for the 2021 MLB season.
Fantasy Baseball Catcher Rankings 2021
10. Yasmani Grandal, Chicago White Sox
9. Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees
8. Austin Nola, San Diego Padres
7. Travis d'Arnaud, Atlanta Braves
6. James McCann, New York Mets
James McCann enters the 2021 season as the Mets' everyday catcher and should hit in the middle of what is a strong offensive lineup. McCann hit 25 home runs and racked up 75 RBIs over the last two seasons as a part of the Chicago White Sox. While those numbers are due to increase with more plate appearances, he could see his .344 OBP posted over the last two seasons dip a little bit. Overall, he is a low-end starting catcher with a lot of upside.
5. Willson Contreras, Chicago Cubs
4. Will Smith, Los Angeles Dodgers
Will Smith burst onto the scene in what was a shortened 2020 MLB season as he posted a .401 OBP and cut down his strikeout percentage from his rookie season by almost half. He may see more rest days than the catchers ranked around him, but his power at the plate makes him a top choice at the position this season. Plus, the Dodgers have a stacked lineup and Smith should see plenty of opportunities to contribute.
3. Christian Vasquez, Boston Red Sox
2. Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals
1. JT Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies
JT Realmuto remains the cream of the crop at the catcher position as he is able to post above-average numbers in almost every MLB statistic. Over the last two seasons, Realmuto ranks No. 1 among catchers in RBIs and runs scored. He set a career high in walk rate last season as well. He is currently dealing with a thumb injury, but it is reported he should be ready for Opening Day. He has proven to be worthy of the top spot at the position.
