The Minnesota Vikings never mounted much momentum during the 2020 NFL season due to key injuries on defense, and the team missed out on the playoffs. However, there are reasons for optimism, from Kirk Cousins' play to the breakout rookie campaign from Justin Jefferson.

With free agency soon approaching, the Vikings should look at stealing one free agent from their division rival, the Green Bay Packers.

Linebacker Christian Kirksey, who was recently released from by Green Bay, could be a smart addition.

In 11 games for the Packers in 2020, Kirksey registered 77.0 tackles (46.0 solo) and 2.0 sacks. He made plays in coverage as well, earning 2 interceptions and 4 passes defensed.

With the Vikings currently projected at $9.4 million over the salary cap, per Over The Cap, they will likely need to bargain shop this offseason in order to fill out the roster. Given his recent cut by the Packers, it's hard to see the free agent commanding much on the open market, but he'd still be a valuable depth addition for an LB corps that was ravaged by injuries this past season.

With starter Eric Wilson also set to hit free agency, Kirksey could be an affordable replacement if he departs. He should be incredibly motivated to step up his play in 2021 if he lands in the same division as his former team.
