Outside of the Lombardi Trophy itself, one of the most prestigious awards on the line for this week's Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers showdown is the Super Bowl MVP award.
Chris Jones Super Bowl MVP Odds
Chris Jones' odds to win the Super Bowl MVP have him sitting at +8000, giving him the 15th-best odds among all players, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
While defenders rarely get this distinction, we have seen two defenders bring it home in the past seven seasons. Von Miller did it in Super Bowl 50, and Malcolm Smith did it back in Super Bowl XLVIII. Prior to that, though, a defender hadn't won the award since Dexter Jackson did it in 2003.
But there's reason to believe Jones could be the third defender in the past eight seasons to be named Super Bowl MVP.
For one, this guy is an absolute monster. He might be the best pass-rushing DT in the NFL other than Aaron Donald. Jones has a combined 32.0 sacks over the past three seasons, and he finished as ProFootballFocus' second-highest graded DT this season, behind only Donald.
He also has a huge matchup advantage against the Bucs. He'll likely be lining up against the lone weak link on Tampa's offensive line, right guard Aaron Stinnie, who is only playing because of the injury to Alex Cappa.
If Jones can consistently get home on Tom Brady, and perhaps force a fumble, he's got a real shot to win this award.
