The 2021 NFL season is quickly approaching and the Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping they can end this campaign on a better note than the last. After starting off 2020 with an 11-0 record, the Steelers lost four of their last five regular season matchups and were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. While a new season could give Pittsburgh the fresh start that it's looking for, some doubters don't think that last year's late-season collapse was a one-off thing.

Pittsburgh Steelers Playoff Odds

The Steelers are currently favored to miss the 2021 NFL postseason at -210 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, their odds to qualify for the playoffs at +170, which is disrespectful considering how Pittsburgh has only missed the postseason seven times in the last 20 years.

The upcoming season marks veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's 18th with the Steelers. While he may be turning 40 years old next year, "Big Ben" has shown that he can still be a high-level starting QB in the league. He started in 15 games for Pittsburgh in 2020, throwing for 3,803 passing yards and 33 touchdowns (second-highest total of his career) to 10 interceptions. He'll also be surrounded by one of the NFL's best trio of young wideouts: Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

That's not even to mention how Pittsburgh has also improved its backfield over the offseason. After averaging a league-worst 82.5 rushing yards per game in 2020, the Steelers used the 24th overall pick at the 2021 NFL Draft to select Alabama Crimson Tide RB Najee Harris, who should breathe life into the run game. Pittsburgh also managed to bring back most of their defense that allowed just 21.2 points per game last year (T-5th), so they appear to be solid on both sides of the ball.

Even if the Steelers shock the doubters and make the playoffs, they're still a long way away from going on a championship run. Pittsburgh has +4400 odds to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which ranks 18th league-wide.
