After being bounced out of the Wild Card round by the Cleveland Browns last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been doing what they can this offseason to improve their roster. They added some important pieces through last month's draft, including former Alabama running back Najee Harris, but they're far from satisfied with their team so far. Unfortunately, they missed out on signing a free-agent defender who could've helped turn their defense around.

The Steelers had recently been pursuing four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, however, he wound up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh was one of three teams that showed the most interest in Kerrigan services.

Pittsburgh Steelers Rumors

While the Steelers' 2021 campaign won't be over already just because they didn't sign Kerrigan, there's no doubt that the linebacker would've improved their defense. After all, he's the Washington Football Team's all-time sacks leader, having recorded 95.5 of them since joining the league in 2011.

If the Steelers are set on adding a veteran pass rusher, they could still turn their attention to three-time Pro Bowler Melvin Ingram or four-time Pro Bowler Justin Houston instead.

The Steelers currently have +4400 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel, which puts them in a tie with the Arizona Cardinals for 19th across the league. In other words, Pittsburgh may have to continue looking for a few more pieces to convince the rest of the league that they can be contenders once again.
