It's been less than a year since Sean Payton resigned from his position as head coach of the New Orleans Saints, but he's already thinking about when he'll return to coaching.

When asked about when he might resume coaching again, the 58-year-old Super Bowl champion didn't rule out a possible return to the NFL.

While Payton is enjoying a well-deserved break right now, he could still see himself coming back to the NFL to coach again someday. He said he'd be careful about which team he'd lead, however, acknowledging that there are a lot of messy organizations around the league that he's not interested in cleaning up.

If Payton does come back, it would certainly be a big deal. He's already cemented his legacy as one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, compiling a 161-97 record (including postseason) and guiding the Saints to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history during the 2009 season.

Plenty of teams could use a coach of Payton's caliber, and most teams would happily swap out their current coach to have him. But at the end of the day, it will ultimately be Payton's decision on where he ends up.

New Orleans has struggled in its first season without him so far, going 3-5 and ranking third in the NFC South heading into its Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The Saints currently have +280 odds of making the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
