The New Orleans Saints finally got back in the win column on Sunday, but they suffered a loss along the way. Veteran running back Mark Ingram exited the contest in the first half with a knee injury, and he wasn't able to return.
Now the Saints have received some unfortunate news on Ingram's status.
Ingram suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. This type of injury typically carries a recovery timeline of 3-4 weeks, likely knocking the vet out for the next several contests.
Though Ingram hasn't lit it up during the 2022 season, he provides all-important depth behind star Alvin Kamara in this backfield. The former has made two starts in place of the latter already this year, rushing for 88 yards on 20 carries in those matchups.
New Orleans' RB depth has already taken hits after losing Latavius Murray and Tory Jones Jr. earlier in the year. Ingram's absence leaves veteran Dwayne Washington as the only non-Kamara back on the active roster. Washington saw four carries on Sunday with Ingram sidelined, totaling 13 yards.
Now the Saints must prepare for a Week 9 Monday Night Football clash against the Baltimore Ravens with a shorthanded RB room. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds peg New Orleans as a 3-point underdog in that contest.
