On the heels of a seventh consecutive season missing the postseason, the Kansas City Royals cleaned house heading into the offseason. This included the firings of president of baseball operations Dayton Moore and manager Mike Matheny.
Matt Quatraro was introduced as the 21st manager in franchise history last month, and he's already begun filling out the rest of his staff.
Tampa Bay Rays insider Marc Topkin reported Sunday night that Paul Hoover is heading to Kansas City alongside Quatraro. Quatraro, of course, joined the Royals after several years coaching for the Rays and opted to bring Hoover along as his new bench coach.
Hoover, 46, will replace previous Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol. Grifol took the open managerial role on the Chicago White Sox.
Hoover played sparingly (40 games) over a seven-year stretch in the MLB. He began coaching in the Rays minor leagues and worked himself up for a promotion to the MLB staff.
