We've hit the middle of April and Baker Mayfield remains a part of the Cleveland Browns' roster. However, details emerged on Friday that if he is to be traded, the Carolina Panthers are currently his most likely landing spot.
While some fans might view Mayfield as an upgrade over the likes of Sam Darnold, P.J. Walker and the recent play of Cam Newton, one of the Panthers' top wide receivers, Robby Anderson, isn't a fan of the hypothetical trade.
Baker Mayfield Panthers Trade
A Panthers fan page on Instagram recently posted NFL insider Ian Rapoport's report that the team is Mayfield's top landing spot. All it took was one look at the comment section to see Anderson's thoughts on a deal, which was a simple "Nooooo."
Understandably, some players might be hesitant to play with Mayfield. While everything that happened in Cleveland wasn't entirely his fault, his recent comments regarding fans' displeasure with him might be unattractive to some.
Besides, the Panthers are a rebuilding team and trying to build a positive locker room experience. Adding a distraction in the form of Mayfield could derail that.
Anderson might also want to see what Darnold can do under center now that the latter has had almost a full year to adjust with his new team. The duo displayed some impressive chemistry during their time with the New York Jets and Anderson might have faith that him and his QB can rekindle that in 2022.
Regardless of who's their quarterback next season, the Panthers are going to need a lot more help than just that. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Odds favor them to miss the playoffs at a whopping -1200 odds.
