The 2021 MLB season hasn't treated the Cincinnati Reds kindly in the last couple of weeks. After a decent start to the campaign, the Reds have lost four games in a row, including a 19-4 thumping at the hands of San Francisco Giants on Thursday. To make matters worse, the Reds have received bad news in the latest injury update on one of their promising players.
After missing three games due to knee soreness, it turns out that Senzel will be out of the lineup longer than originally expected. The Reds placed him on the 10-day Injured List, listing the cause as being left knee inflammation. No matter how you look at it, this isn't the news that the team and its fans wanted to hear.
Nick Senzel Injury Update
Senzel's extended injury time surely comes as a blow to the Reds. After all, it was looking like he'd originally miss a handful of games, but the latest news puts an immediate return in doubt.
He may only be three seasons into his MLB career, but his time spent in "The Show" has been marred by injuries. He missed a chunk of his rookie season due to a torn labrum and suited up in just 36 games in 2020. Before this season's knee injury, Senzel was looking decent, recording a .252 batting averaging and translating that into 4 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI.
The Reds currently have the fourth-best odds to win the NL Central at +950, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. He's far from a superstar, but Senzel would help move those odds in the right direction.
