The Baltimore Ravens won their Week 1 game against the New York Jets, but they lost a key player in the process.

Offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James, who was filling in for the injured Ronnie Stanley (ankle), suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during Baltimore's 24-9 victory over New York.

Ja'Wuan James Injury Update

Baltimore Ravens News

This is brutal news for James, who was playing in his first NFL game since 2019. The former first-round pick missed all of last year with the same injury last year as well. Considering that James is 30 years old, it's possible this latest injury could be career-ending for him.

As for the Ravens, they were forced to replace James with third-stringer Patrick Mekari. With James done for the year, it's now imperative that they get Stanley back as soon as possible. Having a weak spot on the offensive line could be a fatal flaw for an offense that's geared towards running the ball, especially if it leaves pending free agent Lamar Jackson vulnerable in the pocket.

Depending on Stanley's status, Baltimore will likely need to sign another tackle or promote someone from the practice squad to replace James on the depth chart, especially with a more daunting Week 2 matchup looming against the Miami Dolphins.
