Jake Odorizzi Injury Update
The Rangers received some bad news on Friday when it was revealed that Jake Odorizzi will miss the entire season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
While not as important to the staff as Jacob deGrom or Nate Eovaldi, Odorizzi was still expected to be a valuable depth option for Texas this year. A former All-Star, Odorizzi was traded to the Rangers from the Atlanta Braves last offseason in exchange for lefty pitcher Kolby Allard.
Odorizzi was looking to rebound after a disappointing stretch with the Braves to close out the year. The 33-year-old has been a solid starting pitcher for more than a decade, going 74-69 with a 3.99 ERA in over 1,200 innings.
The veteran righty will be a free agent next offseason, so the surgery is not good timing for him. It will also make it more difficult for Texas to fill the void if deGrom or another starting pitcher goes down later this year.
