Los Angeles Rams fans can take a huge sigh of relief. Rumors were circulating that defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been debating his retirement, but that is no longer the case. Head coach Sean McVay confirmed on Tuesday that the eight-time Pro Bowler will be back for the 2022 season.

Rams News

Reports came out prior to Super Bowl 56 that Donald was considering leaving football if the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. Of course, LA won by a score of 23-20 and it was the seven-time All-Pro that made the game-winning play. A quarterback pressure on fourth down sealed the game.

Donald has been one of the most dominating players in the NFL since being drafted No. 13 overall in 2014. After all, the 30-year-old has been named the Defensive Player of the Year three times. Across 21 games played in 2021, Donald racked up 16.0 sacks, 23.0 tackles for loss and 34 QB hits.

The only thing left standing in the way of Donald ripping his way past offensive linemen in 2022 is his current contract. The Pittsburgh product is outplaying the six-year, $135 million extension he signed in 2018 and McVay has already expressed that figuring it all out is a top priority moving forward.

The Rams are set up perfectly for another deep playoff run and having Donald on the field will only strengthen their chances. LA has odds set at +150 to win the NFC West division and is tied for the fourth-best odds to win back-to-back Super Bowls at +1100, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
