Phillies Get Good News With J.T. Realmuto Injury Update

The Philadelphia Phillies invested a lot in J.T. Realmuto this offseason. Amidst a ton of free agency rumors, Philadelphia kept Realmuto home with a five-year, $115 million contract. Rightfully so, as he's one of the best catchers in the MLB and a force on both sides of the ball.
Still, catchers are some of the most vulnerable players on a baseball diamond, at least in terms of injuries. Realmuto is no exception. The two-time All-Star left Tuesday's game after taking a foul ball of his left knee during Philadelphia's matchup with the Washington Nationals.
Manager Joe Girardi shared a positive update on the Phillies' superstar catcher, however.
Joe Girardi said J.T. Realmuto has a bruised muscle on the inside of his left knee. He doesn't think it is an IL situation. He will see how Realmuto feels tomorrow.

J.T. Realmuto Injury News
Luckily, Realmuto should avoid a trip to the injured list thanks to that foul ball missing his knee cap. That would have likely been a more serious situation. Girardi, a former catcher himself, mentioned that his backstop probably won't be feeling great this morning - but he seems to have avoided anything serious.
Realmuto is an important piece to this Phillies offense. He owns a .314 batting average along with four home runs and 16 RBIs. Those marks all rank in the top-half of Philadelphia's stat leaders. Currently, the Phillies are 19-17 and sit one game back of the NL East-leading New York Mets.
