It was widely thought that Odell Beckham Jr. would see a big spike in fantasy production after he was traded to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason. However, as we cross the halfway point of the 2019 fantasy football season, the three-time Pro Bowler has done seemingly nothing but disappoint his owners.
With 34 receptions for 488 receiving yards and just one touchdown in seven games played this season, Beckham is on pace to set career lows in all three of those stat categories, as he is now officially teetering on the cusp of fantasy bust status.
To date, Beckham's body of work has accounted for just 89.1 PPR points this season, and he currently sits as this season's WR34. To put that in perspective, Beckham has been outperformed by the likes of rookie WR Terry McLaurin (WR16), an inconsistent Marvin Jones (WR17), and John Brown (WR21).
The 26-year-old WR's struggles are definitely a concern for fantasy owners who put their faith in him heading into this year. However, while there's still plenty he can do to improve going forward, a small part of the blame could be placed on Browns' second-year QB Baker Mayfield, who's significantly regressed in his sophomore NFL season. Mayfield has seen a 57.6 percent completion percentage, league-high 12 interceptions and a 67.8 passer rating.
Beckham will have a tough matchup in Week 9 against a Denver Broncos' squad that has allowed just 891 total receiving yards (No. 2 in the NFL), 73 receptions (No. 4 in the NFL) and four receiving touchdowns (T-No. 5 in the NFL) to opposing wideouts this year.
However, Beckham's fantasy owners should still consider him a must-start this weekend, as his volume leads the Browns in targets (61) and receptions (34) this year.
